Ensemble Zweigulden specializes in the performance and research of 16th-century secular instrumental music. Founded and directed by Holly Scarborough, the ensemble combines historically informed performance with engaging, interdisciplinary concert concepts that connect the past with the present.
The ensemble has toured throughout Switzerland and appeared at the Festival Voix & Route Romane, Greifenberg Music Festival, and Basel ReRenaissance Festival. Their productions explore vivid historical subjects, including the 1518 Strasbourg dancing plague and Emperor Maximilian’s tournament culture.
Emerging from research into Renaissance functional music, Zweigulden reconstructs and performs repertoire for historical flute and drum. Collaborations with historical dancers, fencers, and contemporary performers bring this music to life, creating performances that unite scholarship, historical practice, and artistic imagination for today’s audiences.
