GUIDED TOUR: Lucas Cranach and Renaissance Painting

Featuring

Dr. Stephan Kemperdick | Curator, Gemäldegalerie

On this tour of Berlin’s Gemäldegalerie, Dr. Stephan Kemperdick introduces selected Renaissance masterpieces, offering fresh insights into the visual world of the 15th and 16th centuries. A special focus is placed on Lucas Cranach the Elder—his distinctive portraits and figures, his workshop, and his role as one of the defining painters of the German Renaissance.

Looking closely at the original works, the tour explores changing images of the human figure, visual language, and unexpected details—and what these paintings reveal about the society, culture, and everyday world of the Renaissance.
