Ensemble Phoenix Munich (EPM) was founded in 2003 by early music specialist Joel Frederiksen. Since 2007, the ensemble has presented a concert series at the Bavarian National Museum and performed at major international festivals. After four acclaimed CDs with harmonia mundi France, EPM now records for SONY/DHM. EPM’s programs reflect Frederiksen’s broad artistic interests, ranging from Renaissance and Baroque music (ca.1500–1650) to Early American repertoire (ca.1640–1860), while also including commissions from contemporary composers. The ensemble is known for innovative, research-based programming, performing from original facsimiles and using historical instruments and tunings appropriate to each period. At the same time, EPM places special emphasis on expressive communication with audiences, aiming to engage and move listeners through vivid and meaningful performances.
