Alexander Bonus is an internationally active performer, composer, and artist-researcher whose work explores the boundaries between historical performance, improvisation, and contemporary technology. Performing on historical instruments such as the harpsichord, chamber organ, and cornetto, he also creates live electro-acoustic performances using modular synthesizers and computer systems.
His compositions have been presented across the United States, including Mahler Fantasy for trombone and electronics, recorded by the Associate Principal Trombone of the New York Philharmonic. Recent performances in Vienna, Guben, Zielona Góra, and New York showcase his distinctive approach to keyboard improvisation and live modular synthesis.
Holding a PhD in Musicology from Case Western Reserve University and degrees from the Eastman School of Music, Bonus has published widely and taught at Vassar, Bard, and Duke University.
